About this teaching

The text

The Words of My Perfect Teacher (Kunzang Lama’i Shelung) is Patrul Rinpoche’s record of the preliminary practices, set down from the oral teachings of his own master. It is among the most beloved and widely read of all Tibetan Buddhist works, prized for its warmth, its directness, and its vivid stories.

It follows the traditional stages: the outer, common preliminaries — the freedoms and advantages of a precious human life, impermanence, the sufferings of saṃsāra, and the workings of cause and effect — followed by the inner preliminaries and the gateways beyond. It remains the standard guide placed in the hands of those beginning the path.
