About this teaching

The text

The Ketaka — Mipham Rinpoche’s Norbu Ketaka, the “Ketaka Jewel” — is his word-and-meaning commentary on the ninth, or wisdom, chapter of Śāntideva’s Way of the Bodhisattva (Bodhicaryāvatāra). That chapter sets out the perfection of wisdom through the view of the Middle Way, held to be the essence of the Prajñāpāramitā sūtras and the very heart of the Mahāyāna.

Composed by the great Nyingma master Mipham Rinpoche, the commentary offers a distinctively Nyingma reading of Śāntideva’s text — one that harmonizes the Prāsaṅgika and Yogācāra approaches to the Middle Way. It became among the most influential and widely debated works of its kind, and remains a touchstone for the study of emptiness in the shedra.
