The text
Dechen Zhingdrub concerns Sukhāvatī (Tib. Dewachen), the “Blissful” pure realm of Buddha Amitābha, and the aspiration to take rebirth there. Of all the pure realms, Sukhāvatī is said to be the most accessible — open even to ordinary beings through faith in Amitābha and a heartfelt wish to be reborn in his field.
The teaching sets out the causes that bring about such a rebirth: bringing the pure realm vividly to mind, gathering a vast accumulation of merit, generating bodhicitta, and dedicating all virtue to that aim. Aspiration prayers for Sukhāvatī have been composed by masters of every Tibetan tradition, and the practice is cherished for its simplicity and its promise.
